Two franchise candidates of mine in two different states bought a Budget Blinds franchise within about a year of each other. They both have the last name of Taylor.
I assisted both Taylors in their franchise search and as happens many times, a window coverings business would not have occurred to either candidate, but each liked that they could create their own Monday through Friday schedule and could start small and grow and scale their business. They loved the franchisor and their exceptional reputation for training, support and cutting-edge technology. Of course, during the search, I presented other franchise concepts to each, but unbeknownst to the other, they each selected the same franchise company.
When I saw that they’d both decided to expand, by buying a second territory, within the same month, I just had to share the news. These two couples, Vern Taylor III and Madalena Taylor in New Jersey and Lea Taylor and Michael Taylor in California don’t know each other, yet they both recognized a good opportunity and knew when it was time to grow.
In the case of the California Taylors, Lea wanted to start her own business. After leaving high school early, she’d gone back and earned an AA degree in General Business Administration and raised a daughter, all while working fulltime. When she first started her Budget Blinds franchise, Michael kept his job in the medical field until it made sense for him to transition into the business. He is also a veteran, having served in the 82nd Airborne Division. At their store, located in San Leandro, they employ several installers and even their dog, Harley has a place at the conference table. He serves as Chief Barketing Manager.
The West Essex, NJ couple, Vern and Madalena Taylor also have a Budget Blinds. Vern earned an MBA from Penn State University and Madalena, one of 16 children was the first female in her family to graduate from college. Vern started the business, acquiring an existing business and then expanded by buying an existing neighboring territory. Madalena still has her finance job. It’s their goal to be able to work together.
