Mark and I met in June of 2012. He was staying with his brother in Houston while he looked for a business to buy. Mark is originally from England and was a Scotland Yard detective. You can imagine the paces he put companies through! Unable to find a good independent business, he turned to franchises. Mark was a bit of a sceptic and needed to have things proven. He was looking for a business he could get started in quickly, leverage his outgoing personality and in the process, obtain his visa.
While he also looked at new business options, he settled on an existing business and worked out a deal where the previous owner would stay on and work for him. Since becoming a franchise owner, Mark has significantly grown his business topping previous records for that territory. This is an executive-run business model where he is managing crews and working with both residential and commercial customers. Not content to focus just on his own success, Mark took a look at how he could help make a difference in his community.
The result? He and another franchisee partnered to paint a very large building, MainStreet America in Houston, to raise awareness for breast cancer during the month of October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The pink building was accomplished in just one day by a total of 15 painters who started at 8am and finished at midnight. While most franchise companies have a proven methodology they want you to follow, it doesn’t mean you can’t get involved in the local community and do something very creative! Mark can take pride in knowing that he is helping remind everyone who passes by that breast cancer awareness can save lives.
On November 3rd, the pink will disappear from the building, but the awareness Mark helped to generate will last for many months. We thank him for his belief in helping his community by “going pink.”
