One of the questions I ask candidates during our franchise consultation call is, “What do you anticipate could sidetrack you in this process?”

One man responded, “Cold feet. I guess I could get cold feet.” 🦶🦶

What a beautiful image for the fear every person has when they make a big decision.

Getting cold feet is different than the fear of making the wrong decision. I think the “cold feet” fear comes from a lack of confidence. Or, the person hasn’t learned enough, yet, to feel comfortable that they can execute the business model.

Often, it can help a candidate envision success by talking with other franchisees. So does visualizing a successful outcome and the steps needed to get there. I recommend candidates keep a Word doc or a notebook.

Write two questions per page, one at the top of the page and the other in the middle of the page. In the space in between, they can write the answers to their questions and concerns. At the end of the process, they can review their notes to make sure they haven’t missed anything.

Think of the franchise company as giving you a nice, warm pair of wool socks 🧦 to put on, a mug of hot chocolate to savor ☕ and a nice crackling fire to enjoy🔥. You won’t have cold feet for long!
