It was January 2009 and Cathy had been laid off from her corporate accounting job. She was using it as an opportunity to get into her own business. She knew there was something bigger and better out there! Likewise, Jack, her fiancée, wanted to have his own business again. He had an MBA and a diverse, impressive background.
They wanted to work together in a service-based business because of the lower investment and quicker break-even time. They said, “retail is not a fit and food is even worse!” The business had to build real equity and provide a solid return for their investment and time.
Cathy enjoyed the relationship building side of the business. She wanted to be involved in the Chamber and other community organizations. Jack would handle operations.
